Green teas should ideally be kept in a bag within the container, whereas other teas can be kept directly inside. Long-term direct storage benefits from a quick washing. The typical way to prepare it is by scrubbing inside the container with the dry leaves and then pouring in hot water to allow them to steep for a while. Rinse and dry, then add in the dry leaves to store.
